The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance team and ensuring the efficient functioning of equipment, machinery, and facilities. The role involves coordinating repair tasks, conducting preventive maintenance, and ensuring all maintenance activities comply with safety and operational standards. The Maintenance Supervisor plays a key role in minimizing downtime, improving operational efficiency, and managing a team of technicians or workers.

Key Responsibilities

1. Supervision and Team Management

  • Lead and manage a team of maintenance technicians, mechanics, and workers.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of maintenance work orders.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to maintenance staff to enhance their technical skills and productivity.
  • Schedule and prioritize daily maintenance activities based on production needs and equipment conditions.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to team members.

2. Maintenance Operations

  • Oversee routine preventive maintenance activities to minimize unplanned equipment downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Ensure timely and efficient repairs of machinery, equipment, and facilities.
  • Coordinate with production, operations, and other departments to schedule maintenance activities that minimize disruption to business processes.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests and troubleshoot issues to restore functionality as quickly as possible.

3. Equipment and Facility Management

  • Monitor the condition of equipment and facilities to identify areas for improvement or repair.
  • Manage the maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Ensure that all machines and equipment are functioning optimally and comply with company standards.
  • Recommend and implement upgrades or replacement of equipment when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and inspections.

4. Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections of equipment and facilities to identify potential hazards.
  • Enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols among team members.
  • Manage the lockout/tagout (LOTO) program to prevent accidents during repairs and maintenance work.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant safety, environmental, and health regulations (e.g., OSHA).

5. Inventory and Budget Management

  • Manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies to ensure adequate availability.
  • Coordinate with procurement to order parts and materials as needed.
  • Track maintenance expenditures and assist in developing the maintenance budget.
  • Optimize resource utilization to reduce maintenance costs while maintaining operational efficiency.

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for improving maintenance processes, reducing downtime, and enhancing equipment reliability.
  • Implement best practices in maintenance management and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and develop corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the engineering and production teams to enhance the overall reliability and efficiency of the equipment.

7. Reporting and Documentation

  • Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities, including work orders, maintenance logs, and inspection reports.
  • Prepare and submit reports on equipment performance, maintenance schedules, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Communicate effectively with upper management and other departments regarding maintenance issues, schedules, and outcomes.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certification in maintenance or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and proficiency in maintenance scheduling.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and preventive maintenance practices.
