Big Data Architecture for a Smart City in Ecuador

Project Description

The Ecuadorian government is building a Smart City—a “City of Knowledge”—in a high profile development project. The project’s mission is to integrate scientific, academic and economic activity, encourage research, transfer of technology and innovation to help change the country's productive matrix. The vision is to connect the city using the paradigm of pervasive computing, calm technology, and Internet of Things. This is essentially a project that relies heavily on big data. We are looking for a data expert on Experfy to design and architect a systems architecture to support all of the data that will be generated from multiple sources. The expert will rely on the city’s Master Plan that defines the basic guidelines for the construction a planned city, designed for human interaction that in harmony with nature, and promotes generation of knowledge.

This is a three-week project that requires a full-time commitment on the ground in Ecuador, talking to stakeholders and putting together an actionable systems architecture. We will pay for your airfare, and hotel expense. In the end of three weeks, for the deliverable, we seek a comprehensive written report with systems architecture to support the project. The architect should have sufficient familiarity with different vendors (IBM, Oracle, Hortonworks, etc.) and systems (Hadoop, NoSQL, etc.) to recommend a state-of-the-art systems architecture. The project architect will perform the following functions:

1. Perform analysis of the current state of the information;
2. Define the different systems that are needed, roles and users;
3. Design of the platform to support the envisioned smart services.
4. Provide a written report with systems architecture for the big data system.

The end-users of the systems that we are designing are: The smart city administrative staff, teachers, students and visitors. In your proposal, please provide your approach to this project. Please help us understand your background and the expertise you think is particularly relevant here. If you have worked on a similar project that involved large-scale design, it would be relevant to include those details in your proposal. We are looking for excellent communication skills in English. While knowledge of Spanish is not a requirement, it certainly would be an asset.
